The Oti Regional Minister, Hon. John Kwadjo Gyapong, as part of measures to foster rapid economic and social growth within his jurisdiction, took time to tour the region to abreast himself of the difficulties the various constituencies are faced with.
At Kpassa, the capital of Nkwanta North District, the District Coordinator, Mr. Sevlo Agyei, projected the challenges of the assembly to the Minister.
According to him, the district lacks social amenities whereas many intervention projects have been abandoned in their uncompleted state to rot at their respective sites including a CHIPs compound.
Although the district is supplied with electricity from the national grid, sleeping in their rooms at night has become a Gordian knot for them to untie because of low voltage current supply over the past years.
Mr. Agyei further bemoaned the rate at which residents of the electoral area are riddled with preventable diseases due to lack of potable water for consumption and other domestic use coupled with the use of bad road networks.
To drive investors and bring development to the district, Mr. Agyei touted the presence of hippopotamus in the district and urged the Ghana Tourism Authority to develop the site for sightseeing.
A visit to the Kpassa Senior High Technical School revealed a myriad of challenges hindering academic works. According to the Headmaster, Mr. Kwame Rockson Tawia, the school has a current population of over 3,326 students.
Mr. Tawia then outlined the difficulties faced in the school including inadequate furniture, lack of electricity, potable water, and teachers bungalow.
Meanwhile, the District Coordinator later handed some set of furniture to the Minister to be given to the Education Director and the Headmaster of Kpassa Senior High Technical School as an initial step to solving some of the challenges.
A request was also made for a magistrate for the district by the Acting Registrar, Linda Nutifafa Kornu. She stated that the district depends on the Kadjebi Akan district’s magistrate who only visits Nkwanta North District once in a week, a situation that affects the smooth and effective delivery of judicial service by the Court.
However, the Oti Regional Minister, Hon. John Kwadjo Gyapong, assured of solving the outlined challenges and tasked the people to develop a mindset of change.
