Adele Queens and Women appeal to gov’t for immediate resolution of Nkwanta conflict

The Adele Queen Mothers and women have made a passionate appeal to the government of Ghana to take immediate and decisive steps to resolve the ongoing conflict in the NKwanta Municipality of the Oti Region.

The Nkwanta conflict, which escalated over the past three years, has led to significant unrest among the three main ethnic groups in the area: the Adele, Akyode and Challa tribes.

The Queen mothers emphasized that war yields nothing good but only pain, especially for women and children who suffer the most during such times.

With farming and trading stalled, prices for food and goods have skyrocketed exacerbating poverty as women who used to trade freely are now afraid to travel between markets due to violence while curfews restrict their nighttime activities.

They further lamented the difficulties people face in accessing hospitals for healthcare services coupled with the displacement of women from their homes and the mistrust that has risen among families and communities.

For the sake of the community's future, the Queens urged government to act swiftly by constituting a fact finding committee to seek the historical facts about Nkwanta’s territorial lanscape to help resolve the issues as they are optimistic that the three ethnic groups – the Adele, Akyode and Challa tribes know their respective boundaries.

They also appealed to the security agencies to intensify their patrols in the night to eliminate the fear that women and children continue to experience while urging the security network and the police in Nkwanta and the NIB to intensify their investigations into the happenings.

Meanwhile, the Adele traditional Queens made a special appeal to Her Excellency the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, to as a matter of motherhood take keen interest in the case and speak on their behalf.
