In a significant development today, President John Dramani Mahama appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Ghana's new Inspector General of Police (IGP), succeeding Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. This decision, announced in a press release from the presidency, was made in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution, following consultations with the Council of State.
COP Yohuno brings over four decades of law enforcement experience to the role. Throughout his distinguished career, he has held various key positions, including Divisional Commander for Accra Central, Deputy Accra Regional Commander, and Regional Commander. In 2011, he was awarded the Grand Medal for his outstanding efforts in combating armed robbery and violent crime. He was promoted to COP in January 2016 by then-President John Mahama.
The appointment of COP Yohuno is expected to usher in a new era of reforms and modernization within the Ghana Police Service, enhancing professionalism and security across the country.
