The angry youths of Enyan Obontser in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central Region, have vehemently expressed their readiness to cause mayhem in protest against a planned installation of a new chief contrary to their choice of candidate, and threatened to blame authorities of the community for the imminent violence.
According to them, Nana Ayuba Ibrahim, whom they described as someone with development and youth empowerment at heart, is the current chief of Enyan Obontser and will not allow anyone to be imposed on them as the new Odikro.
For this reason, they pledged to boycott and mar any enstoolment rites and ceremony organized to legitimize and outdoor someone other than Nana Ayuba Ibrahim as their chief.
They further alleged the presence of suspected land guards in various hideouts in the community to supervise and ensure the success of the supposed new chief’s enstoolment.
The angry youths, however, are committed to resisting any attempt to truncate the reign of the current chief, Nana Ayuba Ibrahim, a commitment capable of triggering a clash between the two factions poised to see through with their respective interests.
Meanwhile, Nana Ayuba Ibrahim in a media engagement, emphasised that he is the only gazetted chief of the Enyan Obontser community having gone through all the required throne-ascension traditions and coronation three years ago.
He, however, explained that he went to log an official complaint to the police only to be told that permits have been issued already for the installation of the new chief, which is illegal, and something crucial must be done immediately.
He therefore called on the Central Regional House of Chiefs, Paramount Chiefs of Enyan Denkyira Traditional Area and Senahen of Enyan Denkyira Traditional Area to as a matter of urgency halt the illegal installation of the new chief.
Still at the media engagement, the Ebusuapanyin of Emisah Gate, Kofi Ayebiegu, also called on the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Central Regional Police Command, and the Mankessim Divisional Police Command to halt any activity capable of causing chieftaincy disputes in the Enyan Obontser community as far as the illegal installation of the new chief is concerned.
