TUC Supports Nana Kwame Bediako’s (Cheddar) “Sea-To-Kumasi” Initiative
Founder and leader of the New Force movement, Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar (Freedom Jacob Caesar) has paid a visit to the Trade Union Congress (TUC) as part of efforts to rally support for his victory in the upcoming general elections.
Addressing the media, he eulogised Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as his idol and source of inspiration, hence will form agovernment that is committed to serving the general interests of the citizens and not politicians when given the nod in December.
The New Force movement came into the political limelight in January 2024 following Mr. Nana Kwame Bediako’s announcement to run as the group’s presidential candidate.
At the Trade Union Congress’ headquarters in Accra, the businessman whose focus is to revamp the country’s ailing economy through industrialization, urged member unions of the congress to throw their support behind him as key stakeholders in the economy.
He touted Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as his source of inspiration.
“There’s also the story of Nkruma; Nkrumah I’m inspired by. I think I have his spirit in me but not just him”, he asserted.
“I have a few more others; you know, maybe David, is just that this time I won’t just kill Goliath to cut his head off, I will cut his feet off too”, he symbolises his victory against the two main political parties – NPP and NDC.
He further questioned the relevance of the country’s education system when responding to a question about his academic qualification.
“What did the people with the scholars and the degree, what did they do for you? In 20 years, in 30 years, in 40 years you are still in the same problem”, he asked.
“The point I’m trying to make here is that, as a nation we have turned our minds to some sort of education that makes us feel egotistic and we have a lot of pride. What is the point of having a degree when your economy is running down; when you can’t create jobs for your people?”, he quizzed again.
On his part, the Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Dr. Anthony Yaw Baah says Mr. Bediako’s flagship initiative of bringing the sea to Kumasi was totally misconstrued.
“What he was talking about was not taking the sea from Accra and dumping it in Kumasi. He was talking about dredging. And if you look at the river systems, when you dredge the Pra, the Tano, the Bia and the rest, it’s easily linked to say Cape Coast, and his point was that why should we use our roads to cart things. We can actually use our river systems once we dredge it properly, the vessels can use it and they can transport things from Accra to the North etc”, he explained.
The New Force movement, aside from the ruling New Patriotic Party and the main opposition NDC has to wrestle other parties to secure its aim in the upcoming December elections.
