Ejisu By-Election: The ‘White Envelope’ Was Allegedly For
Lunch - EC Clarifies
The Electoral Commission (EC) has cleared the air on a video of Professor Kingsley Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency in the Ashanti Region captured placing a white envelope on a table manned by EC officials during the Ejisu by-election.
A
statement released by the Commission on the issue after investigations
indicated that the contents of the envelope was meant for lunch for the two EC
officials.
According
to the EC, in the video, the said MP had only come to ask of their meal status,
and then placed the envelope containing cash meant to cater for their lunch on
the table and left.
The
EC in quick response to the matter temporarily withdrew the services of the two
temporal EC officials involved with immediate effect. The Ghana Police Service
has commenced investigations into the matter.
Meanwhile,
the Electoral Commission (EC) urged Ghanaians to exercise patience amidst the
suspension of the two officials involved in the scandal.
The
Commission, in the concluding part of the press release reiterated its
dedication to upholding the fundamental principles of transparency and
integrity in the delivery of electoral services.
