Cost of Dialysis Increased by Almost 30%; Move From GHC380.00 to GHC491.00

The cost of dialysis has increased by almost 30% across hospitals in the country. The initial price for dialysis was GHC380.00 but has currently increased to GHC491.00.

Lots of patients have expressed concerns about the developments. Most people prepared to report to the hospital and dialyze with the old amount thus, GHC380.00 but upon reaching the Renal Unit, they were informed about the increment in the cost of dialysis.

The situation has left many patients hopeless and stranded due to the increment. Others also claim that the increase was impromptu and are therefore appealing to the government and hospital authorities to marginally reduce the price.

President of the Renal Patients Association at the Renal Unit at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Baffour Kojo-Ansah admitted the increment in the cost of dialysis saying it is a topical issue and most likely to affect patients who unfortunately lack adequate funds to pay for their dialysis.
