3rd African Media Convention: GJA President Assures of a Successful General Elections

 

President of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) and Co-Chair of the 3rd African Media Convention, Albert Kwabena Dwumfoursays the media will ensure the success of the upcoming 2024 general elections as done in the past.


 

Mr. Dwumfour added, that the association is not expecting any hostility from political actors against the media, but should that happen, the media will responsibly retaliate. 

 

During the closing ceremony of the 3rd African Media Convention held at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), President of the Association and Co-Chair of the Convention, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, after admonishing political actors on hostility towards the media, called on the latter to be fair, truthful and accurate in not only covering the election management processes but also rightfully guide the electorate to make informed choices which can go a long way to deepen democratic accountability.

 


At the same event, the Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, urged all participants to be steadfast in their commitment to upholding the principles of press freedom, human rights, and environmental sustainability while continuing to amplify the voices of the marginalized and holding the power to demand accountability.

 

On his part, President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo DankwaAkufo-Addo urged journalists to uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethics in the discharge of their duties.

In his closing remarks, the President emphasized the need for the press to enlighten and mobilize society towards a common goal that respects the truth and dignity of all individuals.

He reiterated the need for the media to navigate the challenges of misinformation and combat falsehood in its reportage, to maintain its credibility.
